Another entry in the Millionaire’s Holiday rebroadcast series. This one come from November 20, 2005. The good? There’s music. The bad? There’s no voice over. Or did I get the good/bad mixed up?

At any rate, here’s what I had to say about this broadcast back then:

Gal Friday joins me in studio for the second consecutive week. Many interesting finds are played. Gal Friday runs the board for half an hour or so. Oh, and someone turned off the tuner that was hooked in to my soundcard before we left for the show, so no live podcast. As a supplicatory gift, I did convert most of the raw files to mp3 and created a pseudo podcast for you enjoyment [ Podcast | Direct MP3 Link ]. You get to miss my velvet fog voice and the brilliant weather analysis of Gal Friday, but, on the other hand, you will get to hear the Erotic Aerobics track.

Lambchop	Jack’s Tulips	Hickey	“But we’ve already heard this song,” you whine. As my good friend Ponch would say, “Tough maracas.” It just goes so well here and I really love the pathos of this song.
Liminal Lounge	Pre-Set	Hush	I’ve also played this song once or twice before but I cannot remember when. It subsumes the next track too.
The Neo-Futurists	Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind	The Bed Dance	The Neo-Futurists is an improv theater collective in Chicago who have the longest running late night show going. Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind is a series of ever-changing short vingettes and this album is a collection of past pieces. Good stuff on its own but even better when dropped over the top of some nifty electronica such as done here.
The Beta Band	High Fidelity Soundtrack	Dry the Rain	“Watch as I sell five copies of the Beta Band EP,” says Rob Gordon as this song comes over store-play. I suppose it was the subconscious Chicago connection that pulled this song as an obvious follow to the last piece. Anyway, I love this track even if it is a bit poppy for this show.
The B-52′s	Whammy	Work That Skirt	And now Jack Black’s character’s line about the ultimate disposition of good bands who put out subsequent bad albums line comes to my attention as I try to explain this track’s appearance on this show. Dunno, but it seemed right at the time.
The Third Eye Foundation		Urchin Snuffed Candles	Another nifty electronica find with some downloadable tracks. Check out Third Eye Foundation‘s page on Eptonic’s site. I picked this to needle Gal Friday because of her marginally successful spay/neuter operation she undertook when last at the family homestead.
[???]	Organ Grooves [???]	The Hen	It’s a leftover from last week’s bed for the groupie bit. I can’t find the bookmark for the page this came from though. I really need to move to something like del.icio.us to tag these finds.
[???]	[???]	[???]	Even worse, all I know about this track is that it is an except from one of those “check your stereo’s performance” albums.
Jimmy Castor	–	Potential	Cheese funksploitation is the heppest!
Diviniation	10% File Under Burroughs	Divination One	Cooling our way out to the end of a set with this nice slice of pie.
The Real Tuesday Weld	–	Bath Time in Clerkenwell	Fantastico! This is such a good and bouny bit of fun. I feel sort of bad that the folks listening live had to hear us speak over the top of this. You get to hear it unmolested.
Plaid	Double Figure	Twin Home	More chill electronics while we catch our breath heading into the three o’clock hour.
[???]	[???]	[???]	All I know about this track is that it is a Laotian singing a Cambodian song while introducing gratuitious yodelling over a funk track. Beyond that, is there really anything else to know?

It’s and oldie, but at least it is something, right? Here’s a rebroadcast of the holiday from November 6, 2005. The show marks my one and only encounter with the National Emergency Broadcast System. Some freak storm came barreling up from Kentucky way and blew the heck out of an otherwise normally freaky Saturday night in Flowertown.

But that’s enough for me. Grab it via the podcast or download the file directly off the Holiday desk-side server. Either way, enjoy yourself and the others with whom you elect to bring in to your proximity.

Holiday Sucktacular

Certainly ranking in the top five shows ever, the Holiday Sucktacular was a really fun one for me. I’m not the biggest fan of Christmas and especially Christmas with the families. Everyone expects you to be at their celebration and if you travel home for the holidays you end up running yourself ragged just to say hi to everyone. Add in the heavy consumerist tones that reverberate through every single media vector and it the holidays become one giant suck.

So taking the piss, as it were, I tried to get a slight handle on things. The show is completely silly and irreverent. There’s a noticeable lack of technical glitches and I was able to drag out some tunes I’d been sitting on for nearly a year.

Here’s what I had to say about things at the time:

Fezboy! is on a mission to take the holiday season back from the commercial interests and bring it home to the silly, goofy, festive folks who make the season bright. To that end I bring you intriguing recorded oddities for your holiday listening pleasure. I hesitate to call it good, but I will call it interesting tossed in with a bit of fun.

Another in what promises to be a long line of repurposed entries from the old Millionaire’s Holiday page. This one originally aired on October 23, 2005. Here’s what I had to say about this show:

A really fun show this week where we hear all sorts of novelty oddities with just enough beats to tie it all together. Particularly rare gems include rap from Strawberry Shortcake, an excerpt from Devastating Dave the Turntable Slave, and a few thrift store home-made cassette finds. Oh, you better believe this is goodbad stuff. You’ll also notice either:

A lack of announcing and PSAs in the first half of the program; or

A sudden loss of audio quality in the second half of the show.

Again the stream capture gremlins were out in force and I dropped the first half of the program. However, this time I was able to recreate it from the audio master files on the laptop thus you get the full show this week. Lucky you. . . The Party Party	Dick Is a Killer	My Name is Rx	One of two we hear from The Party Party this set. These folks have some sort of deconstruction fetish as they use the words, as spoken by our leaders, but not in the order spoken to put out a slick, read-between-the-lines take on the message coming from the White House.
Thievery Corporation	The Outernational Sound	Lagos Communique	The producers behind this album in heavy rotation on this show included a track of their own. Good stuff, yo!
Strawberry Shortcake		New York New York Rap	I saved you the pain of her rendition of the show-tunes classic but brought you the berry goodness of the Strawberry Rap. It’s like I’m eating the Oreos but leaving you the creamy center. My prediction: you’ll be doing the Strawberry Rap all week.
The Party Party	Dick Is a Killer	Dick Is a Killer	The title track and it made heavy use of the fck and ss sample from Bush’s folksy, pre-press conference f-bombs. He’s you’re president, folks. Of course, I had to edit out the swearing because this very same administration elects to crack down on archaic FCC regulations. Just remember, folks, boobs are bad but violence is good. Oh, and it’s the end of the second set.

[I wish I knew...]	Down By the Station	Ha Ha the Clown	I would like to suggest that maybe Ha Ha is not so much a funny clown as he sounds like a scary, child molesting clown. Then again, I have a twisted imagination. Take my observation for what it is worth, I guess. You know: I report, you decide.
Dzihan & Kamien	Live in Vienna	Basmati	I’ve been waking up to this album a lot lately. The iPod really seems to like it anyway.

The Highend Sound	Urban Lounge Supreme	First Night	Introducing the return of the fabulous Gal Friday. She takes over the controls for a brief moment.

Mark Savage		Do You Think I’m Sexy?	Rod Steward, eat your heart out! This one goes out to my mum and grandmum, both Rod Steward fans for some inexplicable reason.

Albert Kuvezin	Yat Kha	Love Will Tear Us Apart	Tuvan throat singers covering Joy Division is a fool-proof way to land one’s self on this show. I seriously love this track more than the original too.
John Herold	You Are What You Eat and What You Eat Is What You Is	The Family Dog	The album is more noted as Tiny Tim’s debut, but there are many unmined veins to discover, as this track demonstrates.
Tim Grimm			Gal Friday closes us out with another local artist off his latest album. Unfortunately I didn’t get the album or track title before we left the studio. I guess that’s how I’ll leave you hanging until next week.

Combustible Edison	I, Swinger	Carnival of Souls	A Combustible Edison song off I, Swinger that is not Millionaire’s Holiday? It’s your lucky day. Honestly, though, I have no idea why I don’t play more from this album.
Rusty Warren	Knockers Up!	If Only I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Kate	Another of my finds from this afternoon’s trawl through the used record bins. Can I just say OMFG?! It’s autographed, it’s burlesque comedy from the ’50s, it’s utterly brilliant. Anthropologists looking to understand the seedier side of Eisenhower-era US Puritanism will find this album invaluable. And to think, it only cost me $3.99 plus tax.
AfX	Analord 1	Canticle Drawl	So ends the second set.
AfX	Analord 2	Analord 158b	Had a bit of fun with this one playing it three times through: once reversed, once inverted, and finally as one would normally hear it.
Rusty Warren	Knockers Up!	In The Family Way	It’s a longish cut but there’s no way to slice it up and I just had to play it. I mean, I’m not too prudish, but what I’m hearing on this album certainly contradicts the chrome and formica cleanliness aura that emminated from the 50′s.
Ruby	Knockers Up!	Tiny Meat	Here’s some contemporary music to close out the first hour…one you probably even heard on the radio about a decade ago. it’s been that long already?

Scissor Sisters	Scissor Sisters	Comfortably Numb	If only all of Pink Floyd came with a bippy bipping dance track I might have appreciated it more.
Liminal Lounge	Pre-Set	Magenta Sky	We’ve heard from Liminal Lounge before, but this could be the best track off that album. Great mix to finish this set.
Plaid	Rust Proof Orchestra	Shackbu	Is that swearing at the end of this track? I don’t think so, but hearing it over the air I suddenly had a change of heart. Please don’t send Mike Powell after me, okay?
Rod McKuen	In the Beginning	The Yellow Unicorn	Look…there goes the unicorn.
Flunk	For Sleepyheads Only	Magic Potion	Smokey dub beats reverbed to perfection. This album only improves with each listen.

Antonio Carlos & Jocafi	The Outernational Sound	Simbarere	Yet another track played on this show from this Thievery Corporation-produced album. It’s just solid from top to bottom and a great close to the penultimate set.
Reverend Horton Heat	Smoke ‘em If You Got ‘em	Bullet	Trying to get you all prepped for the Naked Truth. As it turns out, the Sermon came into the studio with a pretty mellow set. Just my luck. Still, you get a little Rev, which is better than no Rev at all.
